SMART UK is now the leading teaching organisation offering Auricular
Acupuncture training for substance misuse to healthcare professionals
here in the UK. Founded in 1995 by Sue Cox, the organisation has several
thousand dedicated members working in prisons, hospitals, community drug
and alcohol advice teams etc. and the training continues to be highly
sought after.

Sue Cox BSc(Hons) Lic.Ac. M.B.Ac.C
Director and Senior Tutor
The treatment of addiction is Sue’s passion. She has worked in substance misuse for well over 30 years in a variety of professional roles, and is a qualified addiction counsellor. Since her graduation at the College of Traditional Acupuncture she has completed post-graduate training at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, in the U.S. and Berlin. She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and is currently completing a degree in Natural Sciences. Sue runs a very busy general practice in Leamington Spa, as well as being involved in Drug and Alcohol services. Her passion comes from her own personal recovery, which is in it's thirty third year and which has driven SMART UK forward to becoming the most reputable, ethical, and professional organisation, with absolute focus on the patient group and the SMART UK members.

Kim Wager BSc(Hons) Dip.C.H.M. M.R.C.H.M. Lic.Ac. M.B.Ac.C
Consultant and Senior Lecturer
Kim has been working in this field for 15 years. His background is in biological sciences. He is Senior Lecturer in Bio-Medical Sciences at Southbank University London. He is a graduate of Kingston University, the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine and the College of Traditional Acupuncture. He is completing an MSc in Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London. He has completed post-graduate training at Hanover Medical School and in New York. He is a fully qualified acupuncturist, member of the British Acupuncture Council, Chinese herbalist and member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine. As well as continuing with his commitment to SMART UK and our stance on ethical, evidence based practice, Kim is book reviewer for the Journal of Mental Health, and member of the Society for the Study of Addiction.
Kim's focus is on the furtherance of scientific study of Acupuncture and evidence based practice.

Louise
Rooney
Operations Manager.
Behind the scenes at SMART UK, Louise and her team bring the business
infrastructure to the organisation. Louise's experience is centred in
Business Management with particular strengths lying in quality systems,
relationship management, process control and forward planning. She spent
several years working in London in both the public and private sector,
particularly involved in Project Management for a major redevelopment
of the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital. Coming back to her native Midlands
in the early 90's Louise then worked for an IT and Communications organisation
as Systems Development Manager, moving quickly to becoming Operations
Director. Moving more into a therapeutic role within the organisation, Louise is completing a BSc in Psychology and her Diploma in CBT Counselling, with a specific focus on co-dependency in addiction.
